I am a registered nurse with 27 years experience in end of life care. I have been privileged to be a witness to the beauty and sacredness of one's last days, usually with that person surrounded by family and friends, recalling precious memories and showering them with love and the gift of presence. 

However, not everyone is blessed with this kind of support in their last days. Sometimes this is a result of circumstance, lack of a solid physical or monetary support system, or possibly due to one's own choices. Regardless of the reason, I believe that every person, especially those in dire straits, deserves to be cared for in their last stage of life in an environment of love, dignity and respect. This is the mission of House of Hesed, to surround a person with unconditional love and let them know that they are a valued human being until they breathe their last.
